Old Western Musicals

Looking for a list of musicals set in the old west. If anyone can help that would be great. I have some…but I'm sure there is more. Thanks.

It would be helpful if we had a better idea of which ones you have. I assume you have Paint Your Wagon and Oklahoma? Try Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. The new Jay Records release is charming.

Here are the recordings I have: Calamity Jane, Annie Get Your Gun, Paint Your Wagon, 110 in the Shade, Oklahoma and Destry Rides.

'Seven Brides For Seven Brothers'.. I forgot that is a western. Don't have that one. Thanks.

Any others?

Sundown (about the Gunfight at the OK Corral) - there's a studio cast recording out there. The Most Happy Fella has some Western flavor esp in the songs/characters Big D, Standing on the Corner, Joey, Joey, Joey.

There's also Douglas Moore's 1956 American opera (and a particular favorite of mine) The Ballad of Baby Doe. This website includes Baby Doe in its database but it's definitely an opera that has some musical theatre elements. Recommended listening for musical fans especially the gorgeous and deeply moving Silver Aria.

Also check out Puccini's Girl of the Golden West. Did ALW really steal the melody of Music of the Night from this opera. Sigmund Romberg also wrote a film musical using the same source material.
