Notes
Alfred Newman arrangements on this LP are derived from his preliminary orchestrations of a proposed 1961 film version of “Fiorello”, which was to star Frank Sinatra but the film was deemed as not commercially viable after Sinatra bowed out of the project. Newman’s treatment of “On the Side of the Angels” is a composite of what was to be the Main Title and Ending of the film. Newman was to be the music director of the film version of “The Sound of Music” but his extended commitment scoring George Stevens’ “The Greatest Story Ever Told” prevented his participation. The 6 earlier arrangements on this LP offer a valuable insight into what “The Sound of Music” would have been like had Newman been Music Director of the film.
